Halloween Frankenpuppy

Here’s a fun little Halloween doodle from Jeff at Jaggedsmile. The poor pooch’s name is Flippy. Jeff says this all began with a lunch conversation. That is a lunch table that is definitely creative and undoubtedly weird, so how could I resist.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!

10 Tips For Mac OSX Leopard

October 30, 2007

10 Tips For Mac OSX LeopardLeopard has been out for several days now and I have seen little to none in regard to bad press. The OS seems to be a hit. To get you up to speed quickly on the pros and cons of Leopard, the gang at Take Control Books have put together some tips. Guy Kawasaki put these on his blog:

Here are the Top Ten Leopard tips from my friends, Adam Engst et al, at Take Control Books. They’ve already released five ebooks to help people upgrade to Leopard. These books cost either $10 or $15, but you can save 30% if you buy all five. Take Control publishes minor updates for free, so the authors can revise their books on the fly.

  1. Back up first! Time Machine may or may not turn out to be everything you ever wanted in a backup program. But even if you’re going to have a full Time Machine backup after you upgrade to Leopard, don’t forget to back up your Mac first. Your best bet is a bootable duplicate to an external hard drive, using a program like SuperDuper.

Have fun!

WeirdBlog on Wall Street

October 29, 2007

WeirdBlog on Wall Street

Who’d have thought? The Wall Street Journal Online picked up a little link from the WeirdGuy. Author, Jason Fry, was writing about his online spending and how much of his cash had migrated there over the last year. He especially shared his Amazon.com spending habits.

I can relate.

It sounded like we had a lot in common. Our wives are both analog minded (mine adheres to a paper calendar while I cannot go without my Blackberry – syncing with Entourage). We both love consumable media — digital music, DVD’s, audio books, etc. And, now we both share a WSJ Web page.

Thanks Jason for the reference. Purchased any new music lately?

Steve Ballmer has been the CEO of Microsoft since year 2000. As you probably know, he is a bit of an eccentric guy. To date, Steve has produced dozens of absolutely “outstanding” quotations which definitely should be known. Here is a list of Steve Ballmer’s more famous quotes from Google to iPod bashing.

  1. “I’m going to f*king bury that guy, I have done it before, and I will do it again. I’m going to f*king kill Google.” [Sydney Morning Herald]

Apple’s Campus Comeback

October 26, 2007

From: YPulse | By: anastasia

The folks at Survey U released some data about Macs on campus — it appears they’re making a comeback:

The success of Apple’s student program is a significant contributor to its on-campus momentum, with more than 4 of 5 (83 percent) of Mac-owning students having purchased their Mac under a student plan that includes a free iPod with Mac computers sold to students. Slightly less than a third (30 percent) of Dell’s collegiate sales are made under a student plan, while the remaining computer manufacturers have not fully leveraged the power of student purchase programs.

The impact of the iPod on computer purchase decision-making is undeniable…

The 7 Habits of Highly Successful Fathers

October 26, 2007

The 7 Habits of Highly Successful FathersAt first glance, this article may seem off topic, but being a Dad has shown me that you have to be willing to learn, be creative, resourceful, balanced, and a good leader. These are all the topics covered in this blog,

Facebook and Microsoft – What’s Next?

October 25, 2007

Facebook and Microsoft - What’s Next?

By E. Brown

Today’s news was surprising to some and confirmation to others…

Microsoft has bought a 1.6 per cent stake in Facebook worth around $240 million, based on a valuation that assesses Facebook’s worth as $15 billion.

The deal is intended to help both companies expand their advertising revenues, with Microsoft becoming the exclusive third-party advertising platform partner for Facebook.

The two companies have an existing partnership already and rumours have been circulating recently that Microsoft was going to buy the social-networking site.

Facebook was keen to emphasise that the deal would be beneficial to its 50 million users.

So, what is next? Microsoft definitely has an interest in the Facebook audience demographics and psychographics. Wouldn’t it be ideal to tie this kind of information to a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software or Learning Management System (LMS) or both?

Next, create a Web-based dashboard for company owners and leadership to view their constituents at a glance and you have something truly powerful in this time of rising Business Intelligence (BI)!

What’s next? We’ll see.

10 Steps To Be A Better Listener

October 24, 2007

From: WikiHow – The How To Wiki

Listening is an essential part of communication. Listening is different from hearing. Being a good and patient listener helps you not only solve problems, but also helps you see the world through the eyes of others, thereby opening your understanding. As deceptively simple as listening to and acknowledging other people may seem, doing it well, particularly when disagreements arise, takes concentrated effort and lots of practice.

10 Steps To Better Listening

1) Put yourself in the other persons shoes

2) Remove distractions

3) Do not interrupt

Environmental Stewardship

October 24, 2007

Environmental StewardshipIn his book, Saving God’s Green Earth, author Tri Robinson defines Environmental Stewardship as:

Environmental stewardship is the idea that we should care for, manage, and nurture what we have been given.

Tri goes on to say, we have four major areas that require our attention when it comes to environmental stewardship:

Resource and Provision – we must understand that environmental stewardship views nature as a resource and provision.

Accountability – there must be a balance between the use and protection of the environment.

Miracle – we must see the splendor and beauty of nature as we look at the miracle of our environment.

Passing It Down - stewardship is a value to be passed down from generation to generation.

As we understand our role in stewardship, we can then start making an impact within our sphere of influence. While I was recently at Callaway Gardens, the ranger made this comment -

Start small. Start in your own back yard. One back yard at a time can help toward changing a community. One community at a time can help toward changing a city. One city at a time can help toward changing a State….

You get the idea.
